Your product idea is ready for manufacturing, and you are looking for a China manufacturer for Polycarbonate injection molding or Chinese ABS injection molding. On the other hand, you have a limited budget, so sourcing from China seems like a good option. Chinese manufacturers are known for their low prices. What are the steps to find the right manufacturer?
Many sources can provide you with leads on suppliers in China, including:
A recommendation from a business contact or a group of networking contacts
The online directories Global Sources and Alibaba provide listings of overseas manufacturers
For more information about your local Small Business Development Center (SBDC) or SCORE office.
A trade show is an international event. In addition to trade shows in China, where you can meet Chinese manufacturers, the best place to start is to attend trade shows in the U.S. that attract Chinese manufacturers as well as buyers. We provide our subscribers with all the information they need regarding global trade shows. If you are at the trade show, you can look for companies that sell similar products to yours and connect with them.
Where can I find information on narrowing down my options?
At this point, you may have a long list of potential China injection molding manufacturers to consider. Look for the following characteristics to narrow the list down:
Identify the manufacturers of similar products to your own. A company that specializes in this type of product would be the best choice, rather than a company that makes it as a sideline business. There are some small Chinese manufacturers that are willing to manufacture nearly anything – but the quality may be subpar.
Research the manufacturer online and read online reviews and ratings to learn what others are saying about it.
Those exporting to the United States or to western countries as their primary market. Generally, these Chinese manufacturers can meet the expectations of Western importers regarding safety, labeling, packaging, and compliance with product safety standards. Additionally, those with international shipping experience are better equipped to guide your products through red tape associated with international shipping.
Authenticity. If possible, request the license of the manufacturer and documentation of the quality control system.
You may want to look at three to five potential Chinese manufacturers. Make sure the overseas manufacturer signs a nondisclosure agreement before proceeding.
Your next step is to get a request for quotation (RFQ) once the manufacturers have agreed not to disclose your idea. Please provide images of your product prototypes along with information such as the materials you plan on using, the size of the item, and anything else they will need to know in order to make the item.
